The Department of Physics was started in 1964, with Pre-Degree science batches. In the year 1967, B.Sc. course was initiated under the headship of Prof. N. P. Neelakandan Bhattathiripad. Later, in 1995, the Department was upgraded with the introduction of Post Graduate course in Physics. Since then, there was active participation from the department in the academic as well as research activities. The department provides complementary course for B. Sc. Mathematics and Chemistry and offers an open course viz; Non Conventional Energy for the fifth semester students. The sanctioned strength for B. Sc. and M. Sc. programs are 40 and 8 respectively. Presently the Department possess a well equipped library with about 15 scientific journals, more than 3000 books and many periodicals.
